Learn to Snowshoe, Ski, Snowboard Free

January is the month to explore winter snowsports. Between the annual Winter Trails Day and the annual January Learn to Ski & Snowboard month, you can get free or greatly reduced price lessons for downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snow shoeing at resorts across the country.

In New Hampshire there's a Learn to Ski & Snowboard Free Week from January 7-13. 2012. During this week, 19 NH ski areas will be offering a limited number of free learn to ski or snowboard packages. These packages include a free beginner lesson, free equipment rentals, and a free beginner lift ticket or trail pass to those who register in advance. Participants must visit Ski NH.com to register and download a Learn to Ski or Ride Free Coupon; they then contact one of the 19 participating areas to make a reservation for a specific day that week. Registration opens in mid-December.

Colorado Ski Country USA member resorts will be highlighting their Learn to Ski and Snowboard opportunities at ColoradoSki.com. Four independent resorts in Colorado - Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge and Vail – are also offering special learning programs through Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Utah’s 14 ski resorts will all provide learn to ski and snowboard offers. Many of the packages include a lesson, rental and lift ticket for far less than it costs the rest of the winter. Ski Utah for more information about skiing in Utah.

During the 16th annual Winter Trails Day, January 7 2012, approximately 100 ski areas across the country offer free cross country skiing and free snowshoe lessons. On the Web site, you'll find a list of resorts, how to register, and the types of clothing suggested to wear when sampling these sports. Choices range from Kirkwood XC Area and Snowshoe Center in California, to Keystone Resort and Devils Thumb Ranch in Colorado, to Bolton Valley and Smugglers Notch in Vermont. Some of the areas also offer guided nature hikes on Winter Trails Day.

Winter Feels Good Web Site Gateway to Outdoor Adventures

The Winter Feels Good website is another gateway if you want to enjoy outdoor adventures in the wintertime. Here, you can find the Learn-a-Sport Tool Kit, which tells parents how to clothe, prep to enjoy, and take elementary-school kids snowshoeing and cross country skiing. The Winter Feel Good site also links you to the Snowmonsters, a popular website for kids who enjoy snowsports, and gives you access to purchasing such CDs as "Learn to Freeride" or the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association CDs with training method used for national teams.
